Watford Town IV v Berkhamsted Cricket Club 4th XI on Sat 11 Aug 2012 at 1pm
Match was Drawn
Match report
After a season of rained off and conceded games the 4s finished their league season with an honourable draw at Watford Town. With the skipper making a frantic dash back to Berko with his sons abducted cricket bag Peps lost the toss and we were sent out to bowl. The pitch had a bit of pace in it - but sadly the outfield was a jungle and even a well struck shot went nowhere. We began to make inroads into the Watford batting with both Jonathan and Ben bowling excellent spells. With a surfeit of slow bowlers Mark bowled some military medium and kept the runs in check and Jack floated a few up but without much luck. Guy took a good catch and then almost another with a dive to his right and Jack Filer made a good stumping to remove the watford slogger who had hit 3 of only 4 boundaries in the whole match. George came onto wrap up the innings and we went off for a very pleasant tea.
Our innings was a struggle, and we limped along for 25 overs at about one an over as the ball stuck in the ridiculously long grass. Guy and Peps batted steadily but we just couldnt get up to the run rate. The two jacks also played some good shots but soon perished. Mark and Tony gave it a go including a hilarious keystone cops moment when Mark ran a 4 but unfortunately Tony only ran 2 - you had to be there to believe it. With 20 needed off the last 2 overs Mark decided to shut up shop and Jonathan cooly played out the last over for the draw. There then followed a great moment in the watford clubhouse watching Mo clich double gold!
