Match report
For the second season in a row the U13s went out of the competition at the quarter final stage to Knebworth Park. I'd like to report that we made a decent fight of it, but we didn't, and ended up losing heavily without ever doing ourselves justice.
Once again we were missing County players for a big game, against a team at full strength and brimming with confidence having made it to the national finals earlier this week. The home team batted very well but, to be honest, we were woeful in the field and seemed intimidated by the quality of the opposition, who posted an impressive 160-4 in 20 overs. Harry Ormerod was the pick of the bowlers with 2 relatively economical wickets.
If we were to have any chance of making a game of it, we needed a good start, but the Knebworth bowlers had other ideas and any hopes we had were soon snuffed out with the scoreboard reading 3-3 after 3 overs. Leg spinner Baird finished off the rest of the batting with Berko still more than a hundred runs short.
It's no disgrace losing to possibly the best U13 team in the country, but it was the manner of the defeat that was frustrating, because we are a better team than that. We lacked passion as well as technique today, which was disappointing.
