Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 12B v Hemel on Mon 06 Jun 2011 at 6 pm
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 5 wickets
Match report
Hemel agreed to stage the game as the track at Berko was still recovering from the morning rain. Which mean't we got the game played although the playing surface wasn't great.
We were asked to bat and got off to a slow start against some tight bowling. Jandre(7) and George(5) were run out early but Ben (31ret) and Ed with aquickfire 20 got us back on track. The innings finished with 2 A team debutants at the crease Callum finished on a creditable 24 no supported by Ben h (2no). This saw us post a very defendable 119 for5.
My pep talk was quite simple ' if we bowl and field well we win the game'. Unfortunately, a couple of our bowlers struggled with their run ups and Hemel were on 29 after only 3 overs ( the majority of these runs made up of wides). Bowling changes saw us slow the stem of runs but wickets were hard to come by. A change of ends for Ed saw him take a wicket and a run out saw Hemel at 74 after 10 overs well ahead of the run rate. We then fought our way back into the game with Matt and Dan bowling the next 4 overs only went for 11 runs. Matt (4-0-17-2) took 2 wickets in an over, both catches the second a stunning one handed effort by Dan ( I may be a little biased but it was a stunner). We were now back in with a fighting chance , but the Hemel batsmen dug in and saw them home with 4 balls to spare.
Unfortunately. we lost in the last over to Hemel for the second time this Season , How frustrating!! this time we really do only have ourselves to blame 31 of the Hemel runs were extras of which 24 were wides. This mean't we not only gave them a big helping hand with the runs we also gave them an extra 4 overs to get them.
I'm sure the boys will learn from the experience and come back strong for the next game !!
