Tring v Berkhamsted Cricket Club Under 15A on Fri 29 Apr 2011 at 10 am
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost Tring won by 4 wickets
Match report
On a very cold bank holiday morning the two teams served up a remarkable match where the last ball alone was worthy of a paragraph or two.
Berko batted first, Casey and James running superbly between the wickets. After James had gone, Berko really came unstuck against the leg spin of James Darraugh who took 3-8 off his 4 overs. However, Casey was still there and in partnership with Dan Angel the pair began to attack the bowling and build a respectable score. Casey retired just before the end for an excellent 53 and we finished on 107-6 a decent target on a very uneven pitch.
In response Tring looked completely in control despite a good opening spell of 2-11 from Josh Roberts. Bastin and Partner began to dominate the bowling leaving Tring 25 to get off the last 5 overs. However once Bastin retired for a superb 50, the innings began to falter with Jacob Lewarne picking up 3 quick wickets. The last over arrived with Tring needing 9 to win and a four off the penultimate ball left 2 to win off the last ball. Seagrave advanced down the pitch and lofted the ball straight to a fielder who thinking the catch was going to someone else allowed the ball to go to ground. Having run one and tied the game the Tring batsmen then suicidally went for a run which would have cost them the game - the throw came in perfectly but alas with the batter out by yards the Berko keeper demolished the stumps without the ball in his hands and Tring were home for a bizarre victory with most of their supporters and players thinking they had lost.
Meanwhile, somewhere in London, wedding bells were ringing....
