Berkhamsted Cricket Club 2nd XI v Langleybury II on Sat 12 Jun 2010 at 12:00
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 54 runs
Match report
Sherjan delivers half century but Berkhamsted trip up
Toughers with a winning coin toss and electing to bowl first. Familiar consistency from Dazza reigned from the pavilion end and Paul Langley may have had further success had he not averaged 4 no-balls per over, although he managed to remove Langlebury's no.1 earl doors thanks to a smart Sherjan catch in the gully. Johnny Fearn took over Langley's duty and bowled in tandem with Darren, slowing the run rate and squeezing the opposition. Some below par fielding and catching gave the away side some free runs but on the whole Berkhamtsted kept them in check and finished them on 160 in the final over. Darren James excellent again with 6 wickets and additionally another competent performance from Huw Barnett with 3.
With 160 to win from 47 overs, the home team were understandably feeling positive but a groan was felt early with captain Toughers departing for 0. Not long after the captains demise, Ben Langley pushed at one aggressively only to be caught behind leaving Sherjan and Fearn to steady the ship. With Sherjan already breezing into the 30's with some excellent stroke-play, Johnny Fearn provided pro-longed resistance before being undone with a good yorker from O'Reilly handing back needed momentum to a buoyant Langleybury. What followed was a combination of poor application at the crease and some consistent swing bowling from the opposition handing a highly disappointing victory to the away side, despite some dogged, gritty batting from Paul Langley who remained unbeaten on 17 and a well put together 51 from Sherjan who was unlucky to be bowled off his pads.
Surely time to address the batting.
