Berkhamsted Cricket Club 3rd XI v Harpenden V on Sat 09 May 2015 at 1pm - limited overs (45)
Berkhamsted Cricket Club Lost by 11 runs
Match report
On a day where the morning had been damp, the toss was won and the opposition inserted on a drying wicket. We were already 1 short, due to lack of players between the 3s and 4s, and had one arriving for the wrong start time plus another who, unknown to the skipper at the time, had dropped out from playing and never turned up.
So we started with 8 in the field for the first few overs and 9 for the rest of the game. Given that, the fielding effort was excellent. Will kept keenly and well and a side averaging, shall we say, on the older side always kept at it. Six chances of catches and all 6 taken, not at all shabby. A couple of were tricky - 'Opera' Phill took a tidy one at fine leg off a top edge and Garth a really good one at cow corner on the boundary.
Harpenden were struggling for a good score at the end with a couple of wickets left.
Batting wise we were always going to be at risk with two wickets missing from the order and they had a good veteran bowler operating from the bottom end who accounted for Peter and Brownie early on. Dave being LBW a little way down the pitch didn't help and we were chasing from behind.
The rest batted bravely and gave it a good effort after the veteran was seen off for his 9 overs (moment of the match was Will B missing him for the umpteenth time outside off stump - vet bowler: "For God's sake, HIT IT!")
Harry hit his second 6 in two matches (and ever) and the equation came down to 16 off the last over which wasn't going to happen with most on the boundary.
What a fantastic effort from a short side.
