Match report The opposition captain won the toss and elected to bat. Joe found his line in his first game settled in well with Riaz who was unfortunate not to pick up a wicket. The breakthrough from Joe brought in the oppositions big hitter who raced into the 40’s. Will Goodwin held his nerve to force the big hitter to pick out to Riaz on the boundary. Ted bowled a tight spell taking 2 wickets and a run out for Joe Atkins turned the game in our favour. Derek came on and got a bit of tap but the opposition were soon bamboozled by the turn and he finished with 3 wickets one courtesy of a diving Guy Lewis, Ted tried to repeat the feat but landed several meters short in what is now known as ‘a Ted’. Harry was unfortunate not to pick up a wicket off a CLEAR stumping. The captain turned to Peps in search of ‘too much turn’ and it worked with peps picking up the final wicket.
Captain Gareth and Ted began the run chase in positive fashion some excellent stroke play from Ted and good running took us to 50 in quick time. Ted fell to sharp ball that bounced and cut to take the glove. Luke nursing a hangover was caught at the second attempt for 6 which brought Andre to the crease. Steady progress was made by the pair but with 35 runs to win it looked as if Gareth would miss out on his maiden hundred. A flurry of boundaries took Gareth to within 4 when the opposition skipper looked to end the match by bowling 4 byes with 5 needed. Andre blocked out an over to give Gareth a chance to get his hundred, which he did. Hitting a 6 to win the game and get his hundred giving Berkhamsted a comfortable victory from a solid team performance.
